EVENTS 2022

Practicing the Commons | September 22-24 | Vevey / Zurich

A foodculture days series of events

The notions of the commons and community question our relationship to naturally available resources and our ability to organize ourselves collectively, the way we do things, and the dynamics of exchange, mutualization, domestication, possession, or control that we develop.

How can food help us to build communities and reconnect to the land? How can it encourage us to reposition ourselves within an organic system and develop virtuous ways of cohabitation? How, through them, can we learn to better preserve, (re)distribute, and share the planetary wealth?

In this series of events, created in collaboration with friends and partners, we invite you to experience how we practice the commons at different scales, with the aim of actively engaging with those questions and fostering a dialogue between food, art, and ecology.

The dinners require previous reservation trough this form . We kindly ask for a financial contribution for the Aural Oral event on Thu 22.09.2022. Looking forward to having you!

AURAL ORAL with artist Grace Denis
Listening session and meal
22.9.2022 | 6 - 10 pm

Aural Oral explores a meal in the form of sonic and performative research, offering a sensorial reflection on processes of cultivation and consumption. The meal pairs an auditory archive of its ingredients with its ingestion; each accompanying track sketches a sonic cartography of the dish, amplifying the micro actions of the farm and the kitchen while proposing resonant reflections of its cultivation and consumption to extend beyond the domain of the gustatory.

The performance is in collaboration with local producers and farmers in the bioregion of Vevey, primarily the agroecology collective Praz Bonjour. This iteration of the series includes a sonic collaboration between Grace Denis and the project Sounding Soil, using a specific microphone developed by artist-researcher Marcus Maeder to explore subterranean soundscapes. This collaboration is in partnership with Biovision, a Swiss organization dedicated to ecological development. Aural Oral will be served in Yugen Stonewares by the artist Yusuké Y Offhause.

* Initially to be presented at the foodculture days 2021 biennale, Aural Oral had to be canceled at the  time due to COVID related concerns. This version of the project has been reimagined to focus on the soundscapes, recorded by Grace Denis during her residency in May 2021.

BOCA A BOCA with Thamyres Matarozzi & Alejandra Monteverde
Aperitif and project launch
23.9.2022 | 5 - 8 pm

Boca A Boca is an online editorial project created and curated by foodculture days. As an organic platform for the dissemination of ideas following a seasonal rhythm, for each cycle (issue) we invite external/guest editors to propose, according to a theme chosen together and emanating from foodculture days’ 2022 field research, multimedia contributions, and/or texts to introduce, contextualize, problematize and enrich its understanding.

In the first cycle, the curators Thamyres Matarozzi (BR) and Alejandra Monteverde (PER) unfold the concept “Commons and communities: rethinking modes of coexistence”, in collaboration with artists, cooks, and researchers Cozinha Ambuá, Traveling Farm Museum, and Pierina Masquez. On this day we celebrate the launch of Boca A Boca and the publication of this first cycle 1 with wines, some bites by Grace Denis, and the indulgence of in-person conversations. The public will have the opportunity to check the content live on digital devices.

Public event, no reservation needed

MOBILE SOILS: Overground with arvae, SAE Greenhouse Lab & TETI group
Art & Science dinner
24.9.2022 | 6:30 -11 pm

As part of a series of networking and thematic exchanges between science, art, and agronomy, we are unfolding together three chapters of the publication “Mobile Soils” by TETI Press: investigating the mineral and rooted discussions of the underground, looking at the layered and planted conversations on the ground, and finally exploring patterns of circulation across the overground.

For this final dinner of the series, Overground, foodculture days invites artist Grace Denis to examine the circulation of plants and nutrients at ground level, questioning the transit of plants and seeds through various terrains. Traversing beyond the subterranean into the plane in which we most frequently encounter plant matter, the dinner investigates the cycling of nutrients amongst plants, illustrating the circulatory forms inherent to cultivation.

A proposition in collaboration with Grace Denis with the participation of Anne-Laure Franchette, Kenza Benabderrazik, Paloma Ayala, Manon Briod, Mathieu Pochon and VOLUMES.
