Aural Oral proposes a meal as a sonic meditation, presenting a reflection on processes of cultivation, fabrication and assembly. As a performance, the meal pairs an auditory archive of its ingredients with its consumption; each accompanying track exploring the subtle soundscape of each dish. In Aural Oral the miniscule gestures of the farmer and chef are magnified to illuminate the intricacies of these practices and offer the participants a sensorial relationship with the meal that extends beyond the domain of the gustatory. This edition of Aural Oral works in collaboration with local producers and farmers in the bioregion of Vevey and the surrounding cantons of Leman Lake.
A collaboration with the project Sounding Soil from the artist-researcher Marcus Maeder and the organisation Biovision for an ecological developpement.
Grace Denis (USA) is an interdisciplinary artist based between Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. Her work implements the meal as both a medium and a pedagogical tool to unravel contemporary consumption patterns. Grace’s practice converges agricultural research with interactive installation, often incorporating edible material, sound and image. Her work draws reference from participatory action research models and prioritizes collaborations with farmers. She received her B-A from Cal Arts and her M-A from HEAD Genève. Her work has been exhibited in France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Greece, Japan- and Senegal.
